Description
Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a hardy perennial flowering plant with sweetly scented pink or white flowers that bloom in the summer months. It is collected in late September, early October. The name "Valeriana" comes from the Latin word valere which means "health" or "strength". The parts of the plant used for therapeutic purposes are the root and the leaves. The main action of the root of the plant is sedative, hypnotic, antispasmodic, hypotensive, anxiolytic, neurotonic.
